How do you hide the fact that your TV show that is actually a video game? And how can you hide it all in plain sight?

The answer is by creating the character of Sawyer and then some absolutely brilliant writing. By having Sawyer give nicknames to everyone he comes in contact with, the viewers are so busy laughing over Sawyer's nicknames that they miss the fact that all of the characters are constantly making statements about themselves and each other, and about the particular role that each character occupies at that specific point in the game. Listen to Sawyer set up the Roles concept in S1E2.

The pure genius of the show is that it can be viewed by the majority of the audience for its entertainment value without them even suspecting that there is something more complex to the show. Understanding that LOST is a game will not ruin it for you when you watch the show. It hasn't for me. It has just made me more in awe of the creative geniuses behind the show.

So how did I discover that LOST is a Video Game? By compiling huge lists of facts and quotes (an addiction that seemed useless at times) and then looking at the lists over and over again to try and determine what was hidden within plain sight.

To get through all of the information here, I suggest that you might want to spend a good amount of time on the Game Roles section. It explains what the game roles are and which of the LOSTies has been in each role at various times.

Game Roles

To understand how the game is played, it is very important to understand that there are designated 'good' and 'bad' roles that the LOSTies and the support characters play. I have also added a category for Extraordinary Roles to identify those roles to which the characters seem to aspire to the most.
