There
are an incredible number of games and toys featured in every
episode of LOST and several of the episode tittles are actually
the names of video games. There are also many references to
playing and to sports.
The
most important game reference occurs when Locke sets up the
entire premise of the show/game in S1E2 when he tells Walt:
"Two players. Two sides. One is light. One is
dark."

Below
is a listing of the many game, toy and play references by
episode number.
There
were also references to games, toys and play found in some
of the extra features of the Season 1 DVD and also on some
of the Official LOST websites. While I am am not familiar
with all of the contents of the Official websites, I am busy
adding to the list below as I explore them in greater detail.
I
have not included any information from The LOST Experience,
as the entire 'Experience' and "Find 815" ( Season3-Season
4 Hiatus) were nothing more than games, scavenger hunts.
In
fact, TPTB created The World's Largest Scavenger Hunt when
they created TLE and the Guinness Book of World Records really
should acknowledge them for this unprecedented accomplishment.
Here's
an interesting fact. Are you aware of the origin of golf?
It began by Scottish people knocking small rocks into rabbit
holes! That's right. Rocks and Rabbits! Sound familiar? |

|
It seems that there are curious things going on with the Season
1 DVD regarding "The Genesis of LOST" segment, apparently
when some fans view their DVD's they see the name Leee Pinker
vs. Jeff Pinker. Mine said Leee Pinker. No matter which name
you see, Mr. Pinker states “The Island could be, in
a way, a dramatic version of a video game.” and that
“You could find the hatch, but it could take several
weeks before you had the proper tools to open the hatch.”
While
Jeff Pinkner is an executive producer for LOST, who the heck
is Leee Pinker and why is his name spelled with three e's?
And if your DVD reads Jeff Pinker, then why is his named spelled
Pinker instead of the correct way, Pinkner?
The
incorrect and strange spelling of the name drove me crazy
for almost a full year before I finally figured it out. The
only possible explanation is that Leee Pinker is an anagram
for LINE KEEPER. A little play on words, as the Executive
Producer is the person whose role it is to focus on business
matters such as budgets.
So
TPTB hid a clue to the true nature of LOST on the Season 1
DVD in an obscure anagram associated with an interview. The
reward for noticing it? If a viewer recognized that Pinker's
name was wrong, they might pay extra attention to what he
had to say in the interview.
Also
on the Season 1 DVD, in the deleted scene "Finding the
Tell", Locke discusses Poker |

Four Toes- The Four
Toed statue has been identified as possibly being a reference
to The Simpsons. In The
Simpsons Hit 'N Run video game, Bart disappears briefly,
resurfacing with no memory and mumbling unintelligibly; when
he recovers, he reveals that a popular soft drink called Buzz
Cola is turning people into zombies. An interesting game since
it relates not only to the statue of the foot with four toes,
and to the memory losses our LOSTies suffer from, but, also
to Michael's hit and run accident. It might even be related
to the mention of zombies
in the fake script found on oceanic-air.com. The April 10,
2006 Podcast also jokes about the zombies.
Four Toes- could also be related to Sharteshane,
an online role play game. The pair of islands off Sharteshane's
coast are rife with a yellow-skinned race of people that,
for centuries, have been enslaved by the more enlightened
denizens of the mainland. The enslaved are never allowed shoes
and have their smallest toes chopped off to show that they're
claimed. Though slavery is a dying industry and most slaves
used only for mining, one still will see the occasional four-toe
on the street, filling his master's grocery list. It's unseemly
for unclaimed four-toes to walk cities without purpose however,
and freed slaves are usually shipped right back to the islands.
Seen as subhuman by the Gefendur, they really hold no interest
for the Eye of Redemption. |

Fire & Water- Anatomy of an Episode, there is a group
of toys on the conference table in front of Damon Lindelof
as he is speaking. A doll and a comic book are tacked up on
the bulletin board behind Carlton Cuse.
LOST
Connections is a game. And a very important one. It shows
us some of the game hardware and the fact that the game itself
is making the connections in LOST. When Carlton Cuse asks
"Are chance encounters a matter of coincidence or a matter
of fate?" he is telling us that 'Fate', in LOST, refers
to that portion of LOST where the game itself is acting to
create the story.
The
construction of the geodome for the Swan Hatch is shown. When
the finished dome is shown from the outside, there are tennis
balls inserted in the joints of the dome. The dome itself,
especially while it is under construction, may be meant to
represent the cage in Mouse Trap.
